Welcome to Super Sock Scarefest 2009!

This KAL is on Ravelry Only.

I had intended this to be a onetime crazy event, but you asked for it. So get ready for some Scary socks. Most Socks will be based on a Scary Movie… some old, some new. GuernseyGal aka Janine Le Cras is joining us again. If you have a design to submit… DO IT NOW!!!

And please spread the word so many people wanted to play last year AFTER we were done.
Sign ups for points will be Now until September 15. Sign up in the 2009 thread for DragonYady cuz the whole thing was her idea in Sock Madness 2008. So we have given her the responsibility. :0)
Also I live in a mountain town of under 300 people and they don’t think we need Hi Speed internet up here. DragonYady has promised to keep and eye on things for me, and has my phone number incase an immediate response is needed.

This year you will want to put in your Netflix que the following movies:

Swamp Thing
The Fly
Many Vampire and Werewolves type movies
Sherlock Holmes & the Hound of the Baskervilles
Maybe even a slasher movie

Recommended Materials:
Needles US 0,1, 2, 3 in your choice of DPNs or circulars
Fingering Weight some socks will be solid others will be in 2 colours, one will need a lil bit of leftover yarn)
Sport Weight
Fun Fur (MWahahaha!)
Worsted Weight

You know how many yards you need right :0) Enough for socks that fit your feet. 300-450 yds fingering, 250-300 yds Sport, and 200-250 Worsted. This is a guess. As each pattern gets closer you will get more info (cuz we have to test knit- maybe you don’t want to play and just want to help test???? PM me!)

Turkish or Toe Up Cast On
Brioche
Nupp/Bobble
Fair Isle Mosaic

Pattern Release schedule WILL BE same as last year (cuz I have been working hard for ya’ll):

There are 7 patterns with maybe a crazy bonus or two. Bonuses MAY NOT BE SOCKS.

As always creative license is given. Tweak and embellish the sock pattern to make it even scarier, but maintain the basic pattern written by the designer. Extra Bonus points awarded for creativity and crazy photography. HAVE FUN!
There will be 2 threads for each sock; 1 pattern release and discussion, and Finished Socks (which must be photographed 2 socks together for credit).
Using Indy Yarns always get you extra points (gotta love Etsy!)

These are socks that may just “go Bump in the night”!

SM2 ended and the twisted knitters who love to knit a pair of socks in 24 hours, had an idea. SCARY SOCKS!


We will be having sign ups in August for those who wish to compete. We will be knitting the socks socks in September and October, hopefully a pattern a week or every 10 days...so submit patterns!

Prizes will be awarded to Sock Finishers for creative knitting and photo taking.

While I think many knitters would gasp to hear yarn and needles grouped into a junk category, there have been some wonderful imaginations pouring over graph paper, pencils, swatches, and even the more hi tech stitch programs. I am very pleased to announce that there are some challenging and wonderful patterns!

Every 10 days…so that you can plan accordingly, a new pattern will be released.
A tally will be kept for Fastest, Most Original Interpretation, Scariest Socks and for those who are doing something unknown and scary for the first time (cables, lace, intarsia) or if this is your first sock ever. I think a congeniality prize should also be available, where you will vote on the most encouraging knitter. This is open to both the participants and group observers (must be a member of the Rav group).

You must follow the pattern as it is written. I hope you will find this to be a great opportunity to learn some new techniques.

This group will be mostly on Ravelry.com . if you are not a member, join now. It will take 2-3 days for your membership to be activated. So don’t wait until the last minute.

August 23 or so the supply list will be posted on both the blog and ravelry so that you can plan ahead and stock up if need be on any sock yarns. We know this is a great excuse to shop. Participants will be given a 13% discount at several “shops” so keep an eye out!
A participant list will be posted on the group so that participants and observers will be in separate categories. PM me with your desire to participate in the KALs and get the 13% discount.

How it will work or everyone gets to play!

every one who signs up will get a chance to win something.

it will be a point system.


first 5 to finish will get 10 points, next 15 will get 5 points, next 30 will get 3 points…anyone who finishes a pair during Super Sock Scarefest will get a point.


scary photos of finished objects and knits in progress will be voted on, the top 5 will get 10 points, the next 5 will get 5 points, and the last 5 will get 3 points.



and if you can substantiate that its your first pair of socks EVER, you get 20 points, cuz we were all scared to death making our first pair!!!!


use an etsy yarn and get 4 bonus points.



what will you win? i have no idea yet! depends on who donates prizes and stuff :0) but it will be fun!
